David Haussler, professor of biomolecular engineering, and Yishi Jin , professor of molecular, cell, and developmental biology, have been named investigators with the prestigious Howard Hughes Medical Foundation.
Two graduate students in computational biology have also received awards. Charles Sugnet received a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Predoctoral Fellowship. He is a first-year graduate student working with Professors Ares and Haussler on DNA microarrays and bioinformatics. Second-year graduate student Terrence Furey earned a $10,000 Achievement Rewards for College Scientists (ARCS) Foundation Scholarship.
