Baskin Engineering Student Ambassadors

Let our ambassadors help guide you.

Baskin Engineering Student Ambassadors (BESAs) are current students at the Baskin School of Engineering, who are trained to answer questions for prospective students and their families. Our ambassadors can provide a first-hand perspective of Baskin Engineering educational programs and the student experience at UC Santa Cruz.

Book a 45-minute, in-person tour of the Baskin School of Engineering led by BESAs. These tours are geared toward prospective and newly admitted students and their families, and provide an invaluable experience to meet face-to-face with current students; explore the buildings, labs, and classrooms; and learn more about specific majors, student organizations, and support programs offered throughout the school of engineering.

Our student ambassador, Sabrina, answers some of your frequently asked questions.

Can I do research at Baskin Engineering?

Answer: Yes. Many professors encourage undergraduate students to conduct research and provide various opportunities throughout the year. Some research positions are paid and/or can be completed for course credit.

Will I have time for extracurricular activities?

Answer: Absolutely! There are more than 180 student clubs at UCSC and students are encouraged to join a club (or a few!) that catches their interest. Club participation is a great way to meet new friends, pursue passions, and gain hands-on experience.

How hard is it to get into undergrad classes?

Answer: It depends on the class you are trying to enroll in. Some classes have less seats than others and tend to fill up fast. If you see that a class is full, it’s always best to join the waitlist, as more spots may become available near the start of the quarter.
