Applied Mathematics

Applied mathematics is a discipline devoted to the use of mathematical methods and reasoning to solve real-world problems of a scientific or decision-making nature in a wide variety of subjects, principally (but not exclusively) in engineering, medicine, the physical and biological sciences, and the social sciences. Applied mathematical modeling often involves the use of systems of ordinary or partial differential equations to describe and predict the behavior of complex real-world systems that unfold dynamically in time.

With the support of a nearly $6 million grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF), researchers at UC Santa Cruz will lead a five year, multi-institutional project to explore a new vision of engineering cyber-physical systems.
The annual event underscores the value of industry partnerships and how they provide unique opportunities for Baskin Engineering students to develop and hone their soft and hard skills in preparation for impactful, successful careers.
